Windstorm Preparedness
Point Roberts is often exposed to powerful coastal windstorms, especially in fall and winter. These storms can bring down trees, damage structures, and disrupt power and communications.
Before a Windstorm
- Secure outdoor furniture, tools, and materials that could become airborne.
- Trim tree branches near your home or power lines.
- Charge phones, power banks, and other essential electronics.
- Prepare an emergency kit with flashlights, food, water, and extra blankets.
During a Windstorm
- Stay indoors and away from windows.
- Do not drive unless absolutely necessary — downed trees and power lines may block roads.
- Listen for emergency updates and weather alerts.
After the Storm
- Check for damage to your home and surroundings but avoid touching downed power lines.
- Report outages or damage to local authorities or utility providers.
- Assist neighbors if possible and check on those who may need help.
