Isolation Challenges

Point Roberts is uniquely vulnerable to isolation due to its geography. Our community relies on access through Canada for most transportation and supply routes, which can be disrupted by emergencies or political events.

When Isolation Happens

Whether due to border closures (such as after 9/11), pandemics (as seen with COVID-19), transportation breakdowns, or other crises, residents may be unable to leave or receive deliveries from the mainland.

What You Can Do to Prepare

Community Resilience

PREP works to support community coordination and ensure critical information gets to residents even when isolated. We encourage everyone to take part in local emergency planning and communication drills.

During an Isolation Event

Our unique geography is a challenge—but also an opportunity to build a strong, self-reliant community. Preparing for isolation is key to resilience in Point Roberts.
